I hate myself for loving you

Fake Friends

Actually, I don’t.

Not much of length to say at 02:52 in the morning, but I’m listening to Joan Jett songs on Youtube (Spotify has a disturbing lack of Joan Jett/Joan Jett & The Blackhearts/The Runaways, although it does have some songs – I should really buy some CDs). Joan Jett is pretty awesome. Properly anthemic, catchy 70s and 80s rock. I don’t really need to elaborate on this, everyone knows at least a couple of her songs. I hope.

What I do want to share, though, is this particular cover. No, not ‘I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll’, something different. I have no idea how famous this one is. I don’t tend to see it mentioned very often (although the original is pretty well known). It’s from Jett’s first solo album, from after The Runaways and before The Blackhearts. It was released by Lesley Gore originally and has been covered by a few bands since, but no version (including the original) is quite as great as the Joan Jett version, which starts off as a slow, bluesy number that gradually builds into a melodic ‘fuck you’.

So there.
