I have another blog too, but we don’t talk about that

Pretty Famous In Michigan is dead. The blog served me well, to an extent, by which I mean barely at all. This was, of course, my fault for rarely updating it but right now I feel that’s besides the point. It was time for a change; something more sedate, more professional, a nice portfolio piece that summarised who I am and what I’m about. Pretty Famous In Michigan started life as part of the ‘One A Day’ network, originally set up by Andy Kelly in which a bunch of bloggers would post one entry a day, every day for 365 days. As you can see from PFIM, I lasted about a week before I started breaking the rules (accidentally, I might add, I was never aware of these rules) and eventually stopped altogether. Sure, I updated sporadically after that, but it was mostly nonsense and a fresh start was needed. So here we are.

For those who don’t know me, I primarily write about games. You can probably find out where I do this with a quick glance at the ‘Dear Heart’ section down the right hand side, which contains sites I write for regularly as well as a couple I’ve contributed to once or twice. Because I spend most of my time writing about games (actually I spend a surprising amount of time writing about other things, but that’s a story for another paragraph), this blog probably won’t feature gaming all that much. Maybe occasionally. I do have a category reserved just in case after all. But, no, I’m sure I have more to talk about than video games, right? Incidentally if you’re looking for a fantastic gaming-oriented personal blog then you could do a lot worse than check out Daily Girl Attack Panic Super HD RemixGame Waste or a couple of the other blogs in the links.

So if not gaming, then what? The navigation bar might be a clue. Other. That’ll be an interesting thing to talk about. Can’t wait to come up with some ‘Other’ themed posts. Writing? By that I mean non-games writing. I have a crime novel I’m currently pitching around, that should be entertaining to pretend doesn’t exist. I’m working on a project that I can’t describe in genre terms, so I just won’t talk about it at all. And I write a bunch of short stories, but nobody reads those any more anyway, so let’s just say they’re a series of interweaving narratives that spiral towards an inevitable, painful conclusion (the conclusion being, nobody reads short stories any more – it’s very much a ‘breaking the fourth wall’ novel where the reader writes his or her own ending by not reading it).

Music, though? Everyone loves music, right. I can totally wax lyrical about my love of music without fear of reprisal or denigration from my peers. ABBA, Tom Jones, The Village People, Muse, the list is endless. (Apologies.) Something I will be blogging about actually is the violin. I can’t play the violin. At all. In this piece here, I said that if I didn’t play video games I’d be Vanessa Mae, and this is only partly untrue. If I want to be Vanessa Mae, why should I let things like other interests, a lack of talent or being the wrong gender stop me? I can’t hold back any longer; I’m going to learn how to play the violin. I have a violin, I have a ‘Teach Yourself Violin’ DVD, and a book… what could possibly go wrong? Nothing. Nothing could go wrong. Within a month or two I will be totally pro at the violin, and I will share every step of the journey on this blog. Or at least the steps that falsely portray me as capable of learning the instrument. This is going to be very exciting. I can feel it. I apologise in advance to Jim, who lives next door, and to a lesser extent Adam, who might as well live next door.

I feel I’ve talked about myself far too much already, so uh, look at this Youtube video or something. Christ, this is awkward. Yeah, maybe you should go. But come back sometime! I’ll totally update. Maybe even with something remotely interesting.

Nice, I didn’t swear once.

You didn’t swear, no. Just at the top of every page. Awesome name, by the way. Somewhere, a celebrity porn site is kicking themselves.

So… care to jump back on the oneaday wagon? You got some serious catching up to do! :)

I don't think I'm cut out for oneaday. Oneaweek I might manage, but I don't think I have enough to say to power a daily blog post!

Ah, that’s part of the challenge! I struggle for inspiration sometimes (as you may have seen). But I can usually find something to wank on about for at least 500 words. :)

Also, I ballsed up my Twitter link in the previous comment. I are idiot.
